It’s been a minute since we’ve heard anything new from the legendary Ms. Nicki Minaj, but thanks to Rae Sremmurd’s number one hit “Black Beatles,” Minaj is back in the recording booth—exactly where we like her to be.
After being the soundtrack to the viral sensation #MannequinChallenge, rap duo Rae Sremmurd’s single “Black Beatles” has skyrocketed to the number one spot on North American charts and become one of the biggest hits of the year. Inspiring everyone from Destiny’s Child to Adele to an actual Beatle to stand still, the duo’s slow-paced song has been stuck in everyone’s head—including Nicki Minaj.

The multi-talented rapper just dropped her own version of “Black Beatles,” using the beat and chorus to accompany her new set of lyrics for “Black Barbies.” Minaj’s lyrics stay true to her history as a sexually progressive, positive and outspoken artist, who isn’t afraid to chime in on social and political events. Uploading the new track to SoundCloud this morning, Nicki raps, “Island girl, Donald Trump want me go home/ Still pull up with my wrist lookin’ like a snow cone.”
Minaj congratulated Rae Sremmurd, as well as their producers Gucci Mane and Mike WiLL Made-It on their new chart topper, with the latter two artists surprisingly never reaching the top of the Billboard chart until now.
Let’s hope that Minaj’s recent feature on Ariana Grande’s “Side to Side” and new track “Black Barbies” signals a fresh album from the triple threat in the near future.
