Now that multi-talented entertainer Nicki Minaj has taken over the rap and pop music world, she’s probably looking for a new medium to conquer. Prepare yourself for Nicki Minaj, the scene-stealing actress.
Minaj is flexing her acting muscles and showing off comedic timing in the new trailer for Barbershop: The Next Cut. Joining the film franchise in its third installment, Minaj is going back to her roots with her new acting gig.
Before she was Nicki Minaj, selling out world tours, sweeping award shows, becoming one of the best-selling artist of all time, she was Onika Maraj, high school drama student. Minaj attended LaGuardia High School in Manhattan, the school that inspired the film Fame. Nicki was cast in an off-Broadway play, but when acting didn’t take off, she fell back on her plan B aka becoming the biggest rapper in the world.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Minaj’s Barbz will get to see the superstar act. There was this little video that surfaced last year featuring a very young Onika throwing what looks like a very heavy phone.
Now fans will get to see Minaj on the big screen, starring opposite Ice Cube, Cedric The Entertainer, Eve, Anthony Anderson, Regina Hall and fellow Barbershop newcomers Common, JB Smoove, Lamorne Morris and Tyga. The third installment marks the first Barbershop film in 12 years.
Barbershop: The Next Cut hits theatres April 15.
