Normani Hits Superstar Status With Video For ‘Waves’ With 6lack

Normani, Waves

Remember when Nicki Minaj informed the world at the 2018 MTV VMA that “Normani is that bitch”? She was right. The newly-solo singer just dropped her new music video for “Waves” and it’s so freaking good we can barely stand it.

Normani is continuing to prove that there’s life after Fifth Harmony. Since the hugely popular girl group announced their hiatus in early 2018, Normani has been slowly and steadily building a name for herself as an artist, first with two huge collaborations and now with her latest track “Waves.”

Teaming up with Grammy-nominated artist 6lack, the track details the pain of falling in and out of love with someone, with the video pushing Normani all the way to another planet in order to avoid her ex. We feel this so hard.

Looking like a goddess throughout the space-themed video, Normani and a team of look-a-like performers show the pop world how it’s done, with the singer once again proving herself as one of the most talented dancers in the music biz. Rapper 6lack makes an appearance near the end of the video, delivering his verse and sizzling alongside Normani. Whoever did the lighting on this video deserves an Oscar. We are shook by the beauty.

Normani tweeted her fans that she made the video for them, and for that we thank her.

“Waves” was first released back in November, but Normani and 6lack have now breathed new life into the song thanks to their stunning music video.

Normani had her first huge post-Fifth Harmony hit with Khalid, releasing the duet “Love Lies” for the Love, Simon soundtrack in February 2018. The song led to a steamy music video and star-making performance at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards, one that caught the eye of longtime Harmonizer Sam Smith.

When it came time for Smith to find a vocalist for his latest single “Dancing With A Stranger,” he instantly thought of Normani’s Billboard performance. Coupled with the good fortune of Normani working in the same studio as Smith, the collaboration easily came together, with the pair debuting one of the biggest songs of 2019 in January.

Normani and Smith dropped the video for “Dancing With A Stranger” on January 28, a mash-up of Ex Machina and Tinder. Smith brooded, Normani danced, and it’s really all we can ask for from the hugely talented coupling.
