If fans are wondering whether One Direction has already checked out ahead of their March hiatus, today’s video for Perfect looks like a resounding ‘yes’. The band seems to have scheduled shooting around a press interview and a few free hours at the Intercontinental Hotel in New York City rather than setting time aside to shoot a full-scale concept.
Maybe the new video is a comment on the lives of the four boy banders, showing Harry, Liam, Louis and Niall spending their days alone in hotels. Or maybe they just didn’t have time to shoot anything else.
While the video’s premise is simple, the shooting style is extraordinary, with wide black and white shots showing off the stunning backdrop of New York City. It’s the first time famed music video director Sophie Muller, famous for her collaborations with No Doubt, Garbage and Beyonce, has worked with One Direction.
The videos shows 1D playing soccer in a hotel conference room, singing on the hotel roof, wandering the halls, and doing their best rockstar impressions by trashing their rooms. For the most part, the band shares equal screen time, but there is a bit more focus on Styles, who is rumoured to have written the new song in response to his relationship with Taylor Swift.
Perfect is the second single from One Direction’s upcoming fifth studio album Made In The A.M., which is set to be released on November 13.
