Paramore Hit The Morning News Cycle In ‘Rose-Colored Boy’ Video

Paramore have been playing with a retro vibe throughout the release of their 2017 album After Laughter and its accompanying videos, but with their latest release “Rose-Colored Boy,” the trio go full morning news in the mid-1980s.

Starring as the hosts of a local cable news channel, band members Hayley Williams, Zac Farro, and Taylor York smile through their pain as they deliver the morning weather, interview local guests, and receive coaching from the higher ups on how to increase their level of happiness throughout the broadcast.

Eventually, Williams has an Ebenezer Scrooge moment and receives a visit from her past self, in this case a precocious child who dreams of changing the world as a journalist. It’s enough of a push to have Williams and her co-anchors tearing apart the set and refusing to smile their way through the pain any longer.

Like their earlier releases from After Laughter, “Rose-Colored Boy” is a melancholy pop track that explores Paramore’s grapple with depression while still producing songs that let listeners dance their way through the sadness.

“Rose-Colored Boy” follows Paramore’s previously released singles “Fake Happy,” “Told You So,” and “Hard Times.”
