Paramore Debut Retro-Inspired Video For ‘Told You So’

After years of will they, won’t they, Paramore finally confirmed in April that yes, the band lives on to rock another day. Dropping the track “Hard Times,” Paramore made their return to the charts after an extended hiatus. Thankfully, the band is preparing for a full comeback, with their new album After Laughter arriving next week.

Now, Paramore have followed up “Hard Times” with their second single “Told You So.” Sticking with the 1980s retro theme found in both the music and video for “Hard Times,” “Told You So” is another case of serious subject matter set to a danceable beat.

Lead vocalist Hayley Williams stars in the video, which shows the singer doing an impressive Edie Sedgwick impression as she moves around a dark house feeling depressed and deflated. Eventually, Williams finds solace in her band mates, with the trio sporting red berets and mod boots as they drive around and play their instruments.

The new album comes four years after Williams, Jeremy Davis and Taylor York released the band’s self-titled album, their first following the departure of founding members Josh and Zac Farro. Even with the huge success of 2013’s Paramore, including a Grammy win for the single “Ain’t It Fun,” the fate of the band still seemed uncertain, with Davis departing in 2015.

The group sat down with BBC Radio 1 host Zane Lowe to talk about the new album, posting a sneak peek of the upcoming interview on their Instagram. In the posted clip, Williams discusses the intimidation she felt approaching the lyrics for “Told You So.”

Paramore’s upcoming fifth studio album After Laughter drops May 12 and features 11 new tracks, including “Hard Times” and “Told You So.” The band has also announced a slew of concert dates, which kick off in Ireland on June 15 and take Paramore through the UK and Europe before returning to the U.S. in September for the newly announced Riot Fest.
