Pentatonix Members Put Their Own Spin On ‘La La Land’ Soundtrack

Get ready to freak out, Pentatonix fans—three members of the famous a capella group posted a video of them performing a new medley of songs from the award-winning film La La Land.

In the video, members Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi and Kirstie Maldonado of the five-piece group channel their inner Ryan Goslings and Emma Stones while they sing and dance around a studio. While they’re very clearly singing live (and their voices still sound amazing unedited, by the way), the Pentatonix members also have some fun by theatrically pretending to play the piano and the trumpet.

The video was posted on Hoying and Grassi’s YouTube channel Superfruit rather than the official Pentatonix YouTube channel, giving the performers a chance to be sillier and more over-the-top than usual. Near the beginning of the video, Hoying kisses a red-wigged Grassi pretending to be Stone, prompting Pentatonix super-fans to freak out in the YouTube comments section and on Twitter.

Both Pentatonix and the Superfruit duo of Hoying and Grassi have always been on top of musical trends, having posted medleys of songs from Empire to Beyoncé to Disney’s Frozen.

And the La La Land Medley is certainly one of Superfruit’s trendiest videos—the film was recently nominated for a whopping 14 Oscar awards, including two Best Original Song nominations for “City of Stars” and “Audition (The Fools Who Dream).”
