Anne Hathaway will soon be making a trip back to Genovia! Princess Diaries 3 is in the works. Gary Marshall, the director behind the hit franchise, told PEOPLE Magazine: “I was with Anne a couple weeks ago, it looks like we want to do Princess Diaries 3 in Manhattan.”
Gary and Anne previously worked together on the 2001 original Princess Diaries film and the 2004 sequel Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, both based on Meg Cabot’s hit book series.
And in case anyone forgets, the second movie left off where Princess Mia (Anne’s character) was just crowned Queen of Genovia, and her grandmother Clarisse, played by Julie Andrews, just got married to her head of security, Joe. So we’ve decided to look back at both films and compile a list of everything we hope to see in Princess Diaries 3!
What would a princess (and now Queen) be without a loyal sidekick? Mia’s feline companion Fat Louie definitely needs to be around to help Mia reign over Genovia.
We can’t wait to see how clumsy Mia will be as Queen, will she trip walking down the stars, fall in front of the court? Who knows…
Mia’s best friend Lilly better have the position of royal adviser to the new Queen. We can’t get enough of her sass.
Even though Mia is looking much better now than she did in the first movie, we would still love to see Paolo come give her another epic makeover for whatever royal event she has coming up next.
Regardless of being Queen, Mia better not be afraid to use her catchphrase “shut up.”
And what would be a Queen without her lady’s maids? Brigitte and Brigitta were beyond entertaining and better be back to sing and dance again.
We can only hope that the Von Troken’s will be back to volunteer at any opportunity to take over the Genovian crown.
This movie can’t be without Mia’s epic attitude. It’s the reason that—even as royalty— she’s totally relatable.
As for whether or not the third installment will feature Mia’s love interest from the second film, played by Chris Pine, director Gary Marshall was very coy. “Maybe,” Marshall told PEOPLE. “He’s quite big now, you know.”
We don’t only love Clarisse’s new groom Joe because he’s the head of security, we also love how his advice is always on point.
And even though Clarisse is no longer queen, we can only hope her epic one-liners will live on.
As Mia is typically known for having the best parties, we can only imagine how she will top last movie’s mattress slide.
We need more Disney star cameos. Miley Cyrus obviously belongs in a palace.
And what would be a Princess Diaries movie without a musical number? Julie Andrews always kills it and will hopefully sing again in the newest film.
But the film still won’t begin shooting for a while as Gary told People, “Anne Hathaway is very pregnant, so we have to wait until she has the baby and then I think we’re going to do it.”
We can’t wait until then!
