The new trailer for Star Trek Beyond has arrived and packs an emotional punch on a number of different levels. The new film focuses heavily on the destruction of the USS Enterprise and the exit of Captain Kirk, two somber occurrences that will have Trekkies lining up at the box office.
Today’s trailer is the third for the latest reboot and the first to feature Rihanna’s new track, “Sledgehammer.” The melancholy piano-driven single, which has the superstar singing “I hit a wall, I thought that I would hurt myself / Oh I was sure, your words would leave me unconscious,” was penned by Sia and will be released as part of the film’s soundtrack.
Rihanna first tweeted about “Sledgehammer” back in May 2014, saying “You’re just another brick and I’m a sledgehammer #barz.”
Today’s new trailer also includes a shot of the late actor Anton Yelchin, who died suddenly on June 19 after he was struck by his Jeep in his own driveway. The actor had recently wrapped filming on the latest Star Trek film, his third with the franchise as USS Enterprise crew member Pavel Chekov.
Star Trek Beyond hits theatres on July 22.
