Swedish pop singer Robyn and British trio The xx know what it feels like to release both critically and commercially successful albums.
Robyn first found fame with her 1995 bubble gum-approved Robyn Is Here, which spawned the hits “Do You Know (What It Takes)” and “Show Me Love,” before reinventing herself as a boundary-pushing pop phenom one decade later with 2005’s Robyn, featuring “Be Mine!” and “With Every Heartbeat.” The singer struck gold again five years later with her Body Talk three-part series, which included the hits “Indestructible” and “Dancing On My Own.”
As for The xx, the band won the Mercury Prize in 2010 for their debut album xx, finding success again with their 2012 follow-up Coexist.
While we don’t seem to be any closer to a new solo album from Robyn (she released the Love Is Free EP with La Bagetelle Magique in 2015), The xx dropped their third studio album I See You this past January and already scored huge hits with “On Hold” and “Say Something Loving.”
Now Robyn and The xx have teamed up for the first time and no surprise, it’s magic made in pop music heaven.
Robyn and The xx first met earlier this year at the Night + Day Brixton Festival, with plans to meet up again in March when The xx returned to London for a residency at the London’s O2 Academy Brixton.
Robyn joined the band onstage to play her 2005 track “With Every Heartbeat,” with the band in the middle of their seven-day residency at London’s O2 Academy Brixton that also features guest appearances from Sampha, Cat Power, Kelela, and Mica Levi.
Following The xx’s show and Robyn’s appearance on stage, a number of short clips from fan’s began popping up online.
Now Robyn has dropped an edited version of the Swedish singer performing “Indestructible”—putting our FOMO into overdrive.
