What do you get when you cross Sam Smith with Amy Winehouse? The answer is a beautiful ballad and a whole lotta sad feelings.
While on Annie Mac’s BBC’s radio show, Smith shared his own rendition of the late songstress’ Love Is A Losing Game.
He cited Winehouse’s 2003 album Frank as being one of his biggest influencers: “That album really shaped me as an artist, my views on music and my relationship with music lyrically.”
“That lyric—’love is a losing game’—is possibly one of the most relatable lyrics that I’ve ever heard,” he said.
Smith might know a lot about losing out on love as he revealed earlier this week that he’s never had a boyfriend. He also added that he’s still “learning on what’s right and what’s normal in dates.”
The Winehouse cover will appear on the re-release of his platinum-selling album In The Lonely Hour.
