Sam Smith Gets Luxe In New ‘Pray’ Music Video Featuring Logic

Sam Smith teamed up with American rapper Logic back in March for a remixed version of “Pray,” the third single from his 2017 LP The Thrill of It All.

The collaboration gave Smith’s song a new level of emotional depth and now, its accompanying music video has arrived. Check out the luxurious new video for “Pray” below.

In the video, Smith and Logic wander around a hauntingly beautiful Italian villa that matches the darker, religious themes outlined in the song’s heartfelt lyrics: “I been thinking lately, will the Devil take me? Or will God protect me? / I know I ain’t perfect, but you should respect me.” The music video is extravagant, with moody dance choreography and Smith adorn in a striking red suit with imagery of chandeliers, jewels, and a grand piano.

With appearances from a white horse, mysterious butterflies, a real-life sandman, and masked dancers, the regal video is an artistic take on the sin and salvation behind the song.

In a statement, Smith said he wrote “Pray” after visiting Mosul, Iraq commenting, “We are all looking around at what’s happening in the world, and it is just messed up. You’ve got no choice but to look up to the sky and put your hands together and pray for something to happen.”

The Grammy and Oscar-winning singer shared his excitement ahead of the song’s release via Twitter, noting how different it is from any of his previous work.

Smith originally announced the remix of “Pray” back in March and although the pairing of himself and rapper Logic seemed like an odd choice, their vastly different sounds ended up complementing one another. Smith’s stunning falsetto remains a constant throughout the track, as Logic brings in additional verses at its beginning and end, creating an impactful collaboration that has helped the single climb the charts faster than the original version.

The Thrill of It All marks the English singer’s sophomore album. After dropping last November, it debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200.

Smith is currently on tour in support of The Thrill of It All with a handful of Canadian dates lined up for the summer and fall including Toronto on June 18, Montreal on June 19, Vancouver on September 10, Edmonton on September 12, and Calgary on September 13.
