The women of Fifth Harmony crafted a discography full of huge bangers perfect for getting you weekend-ready, which makes former members Normani and Lauren Jauregui’s decision to release new solo work this Friday that much more perfect.
First up is Normani, who teamed up with Sam Smith to drop the first huge hit of 2019. The newly formed pop pairing hit the studio together and created the ultra-sexy heartbreak track “Dancing With A Stranger.”
Combining elements of pop and R&B, Smith and Normani give fans a song with a groove, with the duo singing about being pushed into the arms of a stranger in order to deal with their feelings of loss over the end of a relationship. And holy hell, it’s sexy. The countdown to the music video for “Dancing With A Stranger” is officially on.
The new song is a huge coup for both artists. Smith has been vocal about his love for Normani’s former girl group Fifth Harmony, with the four-piece even crashing Smith’s Carpool Karaoke and performing a sing-a-long that in retrospect, acts as a warm up for the pair’s new single. As for Normani, teaming up with Grammy and Oscar-winner Sam Smith, a household name in his native U.K., and North America, is a smart move on her part, with the singer showing she’s able to go toe-to-toe with one of the best artists of the decade.
“Dancing With A Stranger” is Normani’s second huge duet since Fifth Harmony announced their hiatus last year. She previously released “Love Lies” with Khalid for the Love, Simon soundtrack, with the song peaking at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Normani isn’t the only former Fifth Harmony member to release a new song this week. Former band mate Lauren Jauregui also dropped a new solo track with “More Than That,” a dark R&B jam that pulls sounds from the late 1990s, drawing comparisons to Tamia and SWV.
The swag-heavy track shows off Jauregui’s grittier side, with the new single crafting a dark and sultry vibe that the pop singer can easily pull off.
Your weekend playlist just got two new huge additions.
