Selena Gomez is taking her time getting back into music—and her patience is paying off. The pop star took a break in 2016 to deal with a flare up of her Lupus, which required a kidney transplant from friend Francia Raisa. Now feeling healthy and inspired, Gomez has dropped two solo singles this year, including “Bad Liar” and “Fetish.”
While it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting a full album from Gomez by the end of 2017, she’s thankfully not done releasing new music. Gomez has just dropped her single “Wolves” with EDM artist Marshmello and is calling the song one of her “favourites” from her upcoming third solo record.
The melancholy track brings out the best in both artists, with Gomez’s vocals sounding strong and emotional throughout as Marshmello’s beat rises and falls to match the “heavy blue” in Gomez’s lyrics.
The pop superstar and secretive producer have been posting pictures together to promote the new single, with Gomez inducting herself into the Mellogang, the name given to fans of the masked musician.
Gomez has previously dipped her toes in the EDM music world with producers Zedd and Kygo, but this time around the singer is exploring the softer side of the ever-expanding genre.
“Wolves” marks Marshmello’s second huge collaboration of 2017, with the American DJ already teaming up with Khalid for the pair’s single “Silence.”
