For the second year in a row, Toronto’s own Shawn Mendes took the stage at the JUNO Awards to remind the country that Canada is the future of pop music.
Surrounded by twinkling lights and backed by a string trio for an emotional rendition of his hit single Stitches, Mendes switched things up halfway through his performance and rocked his standout track, successfully breaking hearts across the country.
The teen heartthrob has become an international superstar thanks to his guitar-driven pop ballads, drawing comparisons to Ed Sheeran, Justin Timberlake and fellow social-media star, Justin Bieber. Mendes scored an opening spot on Taylor Swift’s 1989 Tour and recently released the single I Know What You Did Last Summer with Fifth Harmony’s Camila Cabello.
