Shawn Mendes And Justin Timberlake Performing ‘What Goes Around Comes Around’ Is So Darn Pretty

Justin Timberlake, Shawn Mendes

The iHeartRadio Festival brings the biggest names in the music world together every year for one weekend in Las Vegas, but what happens when these superstars decide to put on an impromptu duet? Superstars-squared. Also, in this case of Justin Timberlake and Shawn Mendes, a really pretty performance.

This past weekend was the 2018 iHeartRadio Festival and two of the biggest names on the bill were popstars Timberlake and Mendes. While both men have enough hits to fill up an entire festival, they decided to share some stage time and perform Timberlake’s 2006 hit “What Goes Around…Comes Around.” Somewhere, John Mayer is feeling a little bit left out.

Mendes is one of the few artists who can handle Timberlake’s high notes and the two performers brought all the emotion and drama of a music video featuring a cheating Scarlett Johansson.

The pair ended the stripped-down performance with a few bars from Timberlake’s 2018 single “Say Something,” and honestly, we could have listened to these two singing something together all night. Timberlake has already done the joint tour thing with Jay Z, so maybe it’s time to revive the idea with Mendes?

While promoting his self-titled third studio album earlier this year, Mendes discussed his first meeting with Justin, which took place at Taylor Swift’s birthday party. Speaking with Beats 1 host Zane Lowe, Mendes said that Timberlake was instantly supportive, discussing touring and playing Madison Square Garden with Mendes. The pair continued their friendship, with Mendes sending Timberlake a congratulatory text after his Super Bowl performance. Timberlake’s response? “Thank you, young Jedi.” The countdown clock is unofficially on to Shawn Mendes’ inevitable Super Bowl performance in the next five years. We’re ready for it!

Mendes’ weekend performance with Justin Timberlake is just the latest memorable moment in a year of high points for the Canadian singer. Dropping the No. 1 album Shawn Mendes in May, the Canadian singer was named one of TIME Magazine’s most influential people, performed for Queen Elizabeth, and took home four iHeartRadio MMVAs.

On Friday, Mendes is releasing a new YouTube documentary filmed with YouTuber Casey Neistat, which will cover the 20-year-old musician’s meteoric rise to fame. Expect some serious feels.
