Shawn Mendes, Lorde, Ed Sheeran, Miley Cyrus And More To Perform At The 2017 MTV VMAs

The MTV VMAs are less than two weeks away and to celebrate one of the biggest nights in music, you need to have a lineup of performers that feature the biggest artists of the year. As always, MTV delivers.

This year’s show will be hosted by Katy Perry, who will also be performing. The pop star returned to the charts this year with her sixth studio album Witness, featuring the singles “Chained to the Rhythm,” “Bon Apetite,” and “Swish Swish.”

Kendrick Lamar leads this year’s awards with an incredible eight nominations for his 2017 album DAMN., with Perry and The Weeknd tied for second place with five nominations each. Just announced, The Weeknd will also be performing on the August 27 show, a night that could include a few trips to the podium thanks to his 2016 album Starboy.

Also just announced, this year’s show will include performances from Lorde and Ed Sheeran, two artists who have dominated 2017 with their huge albums and high rotation on late-night TV and music festivals.

Both musicians are nominated for Artist of the Year, a category that also includes fellow performer The Weeknd, as well as Bruno Mars and Ariana Grande. Whichever artist is crowned Artist of the Year will for the first time take-home a Moon Person, a move made in an effort to continue MTV’s commitment to gender equality.

Canadian pop singer Shawn Mendes has also been announced as a performer, along with Miley Cyrus, with both artists going head-to-head in the Best Pop Video category.

This year’s performance will mark Cyrus’ first since her infamous 2013 duet with Robin Thicke. Cyrus will undoubtedly be spending much of the night as her younger sister’s cheerleader, with Noah Cyrus scoring her first VMA nomination for Best New Artist.

Thirty Seconds to Mars and Fifth Harmony will also be performing at this year’s show, with the girl group recently announcing their third studio album Fifth Harmony, due out August 25.

The 2017 MTV VMAs will be hosted by Katy Perry and air live on Sunday, August 27 at 8ET/5PT on MTV. Check out the full list of nominees below!
