Cut the teasing, Shawn and Miley—we’re on to you.
Shawn Mendes and Miley Cyrus is the collaboration we never knew we needed until now. Signs of a secret project have been popping up all over the Internet, though neither party has officially confirmed anything. But with a release looking more and more imminent, it’s time we round up everything we know. Get out your detective hats and magnifying glasses, folks—we’re getting to the bottom of this.
Here’s the latest update: the collaboration likely revolves around Dolly Parton and an upcoming tribute event in L.A. Check out Cyrus and Mendes’ snaps together.
But let’s go back to the beginning. Cyrus first added fuel to the flames of a possible project last month when she commented a heart on a fan’s post about the rumour and liked several others.
Collabs have been a winning game for both artists recently. Cyrus’ hit collaboration with producer/DJ Mark Ronson, “Nothing Breaks Like A Heart,” landed them performance slots on shows including Ellen and Saturday Night Live. Meanwhile, Mendes teamed up with hit maker Zedd to revive his smooth R&B track “Lost In Japan” with a radio-ready dance vibe.
On an adorable note, Shawn x Miley would likely be a dream come true for Mendes, who once posted a Vine of him covering “Wrecking Ball.”

Flash forward to this week, as Cyrus and Mendes are busy in Los Angeles prepping for their Grammys performances.
Check out Cyrus’ Insta shots from rehearsals—notice anything in the background?

That’s right—Mendes’ blue guitar. If you’re thinking to yourself, well, it could just be a similar guitar, look closer at the name on the tape.

There’s also the fact that Cyrus liked Mendes’ rehearsal pics.

That’s still not all. Cyrus’ rehearsal photos were shot by celeb photographer Sam Dameshek, who has previously worked with stars like Halsey and Madison Beer. When Mendes needs a snap in the studio or on the go, he’s known to use his go-to guy Josiah Van Dien. But he’s been tagging a different photographer this week—Dameshek.
Fans also noticed other similarities in the background of Dameshek’s shots of both Cyrus and Mendes, including the placement of a piano, water bottle, and coffee cup, as well as a Kreation shopping bag (a popular juice spot in L.A.).
so miley confirmed that she is performing a surprise song on the grammys and you know she has been liking posts which says that shawn and she is going to collab…

So, at this point we’re 99.9 per cent certain they’ve been rehearsing together—but what? Thanks to Cyrus’ “Nothing Breaks Like A Heart” collaborator Mark Ronson, it looks like we have the answer. He took to Instagram Thursday night to share behind the scenes snaps from rehearsals for the MusiCares Person of the Year event, a tribute to Dolly Parton taking place in L.A. tonight. The pair of artists joining him on stage look really familiar.
We also got a fan-recorded clip from inside the venue and Parton’s “Islands In A Stream” is suddenly our new favourite song.

Best of all, Parton approves (and Cyrus is her goddaughter, after all).

We now have a new reason to watch out for tonight’s MusiCares event, but the collab buzz might not end there. Inside sources told TMZ that the pair are putting the finishing touches on a single, with the song expected to drop in the coming weeks and appear on Cyrus’ long-anticipated new album later this year. Plus, we still haven’t officially ruled out a Grammys surprise.
We’ll gladly take all the Miley x Shawn we can get.
