At only 18, Shawn Mendes has already accomplished a lifetime of goals. He’s sold out Madison Square Garden and played in arenas around the world. He’s performed as part of the JUNO Awards and iHeartRadio MMVAs and taken home three awards at the latter. But one stage Mendes has yet to conquer was the one at 30 Rockefeller. Until now.
Making his debut performance on SNL this past weekend, Mendes looked every part the confident rock star, giving two pitch perfect performances that had the singer going from the piano to the guitar to the mic stand.
Saturday’s episode of SNL included the return of Emma Stone, who was back hosting for the third time while promoting her latest film La La Land, which made its debut at TIFF this past September.
The Canadian teen performed his two most recent singles “Mercy” and “Treat You Better” off his 2016 album Illuminate.
Mendes posted a picture backstage with friends following the show, celebrating yet another milestone performance in his career.
He also thanked the famous sketch series for inviting him to perform and making him one of the youngest performers in SNL history.
In addition to Mendes and Stone, Saturday night’s episode featured appearances from Alec Baldwin reprising his role as Donald Trump and Jennifer Aniston sort of reprising her role as Rachel Green.
