The wait is finally over! Well, the wait is almost over. At least now we have a date to look forward to in our longing for a new album from Canadian pop superstar Shawn Mendes. Just announced today, Mendes is set to release his highly anticipated third studio album on May 25. The self-titled album will be Mendes’ first since 2016’s Illuminate.
Mendes shared the news on his Instagram account, publishing the trippy album cover that shows the singer’s face being taken apart to reveal flowers and leaves inside. Mendes also released the tracklisting of 14 songs, including his first two singles “In My Blood” and “Lost In Japan.” The new album also features collaborations with Julia Michaels and Khalid, which we’re especially excited to hear.
The album announcement arrives just two days after Mendes premiered the video for his lead single “In My Blood,” a song the young singer has called his most personal track to date. Choosing to name the new album after himself is a good indicator that Mendes’ upcoming third studio album will feature even more personal songs from the young artist, who spoke with Beats 1 host Zane Lowe about his new album and how much his life has changed in only a few short years.
Following the May 25 release of Shawn Mendes, the pop star will follow in the footsteps of Harry Styles and have a week-long residency on The Late Late Show With James Corden. Mendes is also scheduled to perform at this year’s Billboard Music Awards on May 20, where he’s up for Top Social Artist.
Time to reset our countdown clocks from ‘Album Announcement’ to ‘Tour Announcement.’
