It’s been eight years since Solange has released a full length album, and the music drought will finally come to an end this Friday.
Just announced on her Instagram account, Solange’s follow-up to 2008’s Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams will be available September 30.
A Seat At The Table will be available digitally and feature appearances from Lil Wayne, Tweet, Dev Hynes, Kelela, Lu, Q-Tip and Nia Andrews. The track “I Got So Much Magic, You Can Have It” will also reunite Solange with sister Beyoncé’s Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland. So yeah, that’s the track we’re living for.
Along with yesterday’s image of Solange with her hair in clips, Solange wrote “I am overwhelmed with gratitude and excitement to share this body of work I have written, with you.”
Although Solange has not explicitly stated where the new album title stems from, our best guess is that it’s inspired from Sheryl Sandberg’s 2013 book Lean In. Sandberg, who praises Beyoncé in her book for bringing feminism back to the mainstream, encourages women to sit at the table, writing, “Once you understand you deserve that seat at the table, take it.”
A Seat At The Table includes 21 new tracks and is set to be released digitally this Friday. A digital book, including lyrics and photos, is available now on Solange’s website.
Solange thankfully hasn’t been totally absent from the music scene since her last full length album. Her 2012 EP True included the groovy and breezy “Losing You” and the sultry “Lovers In A Parking Lot,” with both tracks garnering critical praise.
