The Force is truly strong with this one. Just 12 days after its initial release, the seventh installment in the world’s biggest movie franchise, Star Wars, has already passed the billion-dollar mark. This is the latest record Star Wars: The Force Awakens smashed, surpassing the year’s previous highest-grossing film, Jurassic World, which achieved the feat in 13 days.
It’s no surprise that The Force Awakens is breaking records left and right, but what is mind-blowing is that these milestones come before the film has even opened worldwide. The Force Awakens has yet to land in China’s theatres, which is the world’s second-biggest movie market. The film won’t open until January 9, but even without Chinese ticket sales, The Force Awakens will still be among the highest grossing films in 2015.
That list will include: Jurassic World, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Avengers: Age Of Ultron, Inside Out and Furious 7.
