Norwegian pop production duo Stargate have been behind some of the biggest hits of the last decade. Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel Storleer Eriksen have writing credits on songs like Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable,” Rihanna’s “Don’t Stop The Music” and “Only Girl (In the World),” and Coldplay’s 2015 album A Head Full Of Dreams. Now the duo have teamed up with two singers who have their own resume of chart-topping hits.
In 2016, Stargate teamed up with Shakira and singer and writer Sia to create the title track “Try Everything” from Zootopia. It seems like Stargate and Sia hit it off, with the trio now releasing a new song together along with Pink.
“Waterfall” is the first official single from Stargate and features vocals from both the singers. While it seems like Sia has worked with every female pop star on the charts today (Beyoncé, Rihanna, Adele, Katy Perry, etc), “Waterfall” marks the first time Sia and Pink have hit the studio together. We’re hoping it’s not the last.
The somber and intense electronic-fused ballad features Daft Punk-like reverberations, with Sia and Pink’s killer vocals a match made in music heaven. Along with Stargate and Sia, the new single was produced with Diplo, whose dance hall influence is evident in the chorus.
The new track is the first piece of music we’ve heard from Pink since her 2016 single “Just Like Fire,” written for the Alice Through The Looking Glass. In 2014, Pink released the album rose ave. with Canadian singer Dallas Green, but it’s been five years since Pink dropped her last solo album The Truth About Love.
