American singer-songwriter SZA revealed in an interview that she will be working alongside psych-rockers Tame Impala and English musician/producer Mark Ronson on her upcoming album.
The 26-year-old told the Los Angeles Times that she wants to explore her musical boundaries with this album, creating something that ultimately defies genre categorization.
“People grapple with labelling me as hip-hop, R&B or pop, and it’s interesting to me. I’m just making music,” she said. “I listen to Stevie Nicks. I love classical jazz. I love folk. I love rap. I love Modest Mouse. I’m making an album with Tame Impala and Mark Ronson. When you try to label it, you remove the option for it to be limitless. It diminishes the music.”
The collaboration between shouldn’t come as a surprise, as Ronson and Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker previously debuted a track with SZA during a joint DJ set at the Governor’s Ball Music Festival in New York City this summer.
SZA is not playing around when it comes to music. Although it’s only been four months since she dropped her certified gold album CTRL, she’s already back in the studio working on her sophomore album.
