“Has it really been that long?” Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker asks on their brand new single “Patience.” The answer is obviously yes, but either way, we’re pretty stoked the Australian outfit is finally back.
The track marks Tame Impala’s first single since their critically acclaimed third album Currents, which dropped five (yes, five!) years ago.
Parker croons over a retro-inspired psychedelic beat, “Just growing up in stages / Living life in phases,” suggesting the band might continue to explore themes of metamorphosis on their still-untitled forthcoming album. “Patience” embodies the same laissez-faire attitude that popped up on previous tracks “Let It Happen” and “Eventually.”
While this is the first taste of new material we’ve got from the band (other than a collab here and there with the likes of ZHU and Theophilus London), they already have a packed schedule ahead of them, including a headlining Coachella appearance, a spot on this year’s Lollapalooza lineup, and a Saturday Night Live debut on March 30.
