After shutting the house down in Tampa, Florida, Taylor Swift and her surprise guest Alessia Cara sat down backstage and talked Know-It-All, lonerism and Here.
Swift, who’s been a fan of our hometown hero Alessia ever since she covered Bad Blood, praised her for the success of Here, her hugely successful debut single.
“I don’t think there’s ever been a hit song about a party being lame,” Swift said.
“If you really think about it, it’s such a miserable song for a single,” Alessia joked.
She goes into detail about the party that inspired the song—it really did happen. There was a guy beside her throwing up because he couldn’t take what was in his cup. Not only were they real people, but Alessia actually casted the same friends to act in the Here music video. “I really wanted to recreate it,” she said.
Alessia came from a Italian-Canadian family and felt outcasted as a young child because she was worried about her accent. When she grew up, she loved singing but was scared to sing in front of others. The night this interview was filmed she sang in front of a packed stadium of 55,000 people.
