Taylor Swift And Zayn Malik Surprise With New Duet ‘I Don’t Wanna Live Forever’

In a surprising, star-studded twist to the 50 Shades Darker soundtrack, pop favourites Taylor Swift and former One Direction boy bander Zayn Malik have added a soulful new duet, titled “I Don’t Wanna Live.” The slowed-down pop track combines both of their sounds, somehow making the surprising collaboration not only work, but stun. That is the power of the red room. Or mutual connection Gigi Hadid. More than likely, it was Gigi.

In July 2014, the trailer for the highly anticipated first adaptation of E. L. James’ erotic trilogy 50 Shades of Grey hit the web and instantly gained a huge plug of credibility thanks to a stripped-down treatment of Beyoncé’s “Crazy In Love,” by Queen Bey herself. The full soundtrack followed and continued to impress, with The Weeknd’s “Earned It” earning a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Original Song and Ellie Goulding’s “Love Me Like You Do” scoring a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song.

So, when this year’s trailer dropped for the franchise’s sequel 50 Shades Darker, it wasn’t a huge surprise to hear Miguel covering Beyoncé’s “Crazy In Love.” It was an appropriate ode to the first film and Beyoncé’s sultry single. Plus, how much bigger could the soundtrack be for the second film?

Our answer arrived last night and in one word: bigger. The surprising new theme song, written by Swift, Jack Antonoff, and Sam Dew, was released on iTunes at midnight and can be heard in a snippet of the 50 Shades Darker trailer that Swift posted to her Instagram page.

“I Don’t Wanna Live” marks Swift’s first new piece of music she’s performed since her 2015 album 1989 (Swift wrote the lyrics for Calvin Harris and Rihanna’s “This Is What You Came For” since then). Malik followed up his 2016 debut album Mind of Mine this year with a guest appearance on MIA’s AIM.

The full soundtrack for 50 Shades Darker will be released on February 10, 2017 and for the first time, we’re really excited to hear who else is on it.
