Calgary-based alternative rock trio The Static Shift didn’t get any sleep last night as their version of the new single “Wide Awake” was chosen to be released on the latest episode of The Launch. The young featured artists impressed mentors Scott Borchetta and Dann Huff with their psychedelic vibe and earned praise for their simultaneously “loose and tight” sound from Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx.
After an intense 48 hours in studio rehearsals, recordings, and working closely with mentors, The Static Shift performed “Wide Awake” in front of a live studio audience for the first time and took a huge risk by changing the ending.
Sixx was impressed labelling the trio’s impromptu ending very “rock and roll,” and after some deliberation, The Static Shift’s raw alt-rock version of “Wide Awake” was chosen to launch.
“Wide Awake” is quickly climbing to the top of the charts just like the series chosen songs to date—Logan Staats’ “The Lucky Ones” and Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine’s “Ain’t Easy,” (which was co-written by Camila Cabello). Both tracks hit No.1 on iTunes following the broadcast of the episodes.
Watch next week’s new episode of The Launch on CTV and CTV GO Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET with pop superstar Fergie and music producer Stephan Moccio joining Scott Borchetta as mentors.
