In 1960, cinemas across North America were infiltrated by one of the greatest Westerns in movie-making history thanks to director John Sturges’s adaptation of Seven Samurai. The Magnificent Seven, starring Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, and Charles Bronson made movie history, telling the story of seven gunslingers and their fight to protect a small Mexican town from a group of bandito.
Now the story is again receiving an update, this time thanks to director Antoine Fuqua and an all-star cast. Starring Chris Pratt, Denzel Washington, Ethan Hawke, Peter Sarsgaard, Vincent D’Onofrio, Lee Byung-hun, Haley Bennett and Matt Bomer, The Magnificent Seven stays true to the 1960 western and looks like a horse-riding, law-breaking good time.
The new film marks the third time actor Denzel Washington and Fuqua have worked together, previously teaming up on Training Day and The Equalizer. The Magnificent Seven was initially rumoured to have begun filming in 2012 with Tom Cruise, Matt Damon, Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman all attached, with Chris Pratt signing on in 2014.
We’re looking forward to seeing 2016 all-star cast take on the roles of the 1960 all-star cast, including the film’s famous theme song.
The Magnificent Seven rides into theatres on September 23, 2016.
