2014 was a fantastic year for movies. Plus, the best thing about the movie schedule is that so many good films come out at the end of the year to be close to the holiday season and award season so they spill into the next year. But we also have so many new movies to look forward to in 2015. From sentient robots (a lot of sentient robots) to the Tina Fey/Amy Poehler movie we have been waiting for, there is a lot to get excited by. Plus, don’t think we have forgotten Chris Pratt. Long may he reign.
Check out our picks for the movies we will be lining up for in 2015.
Ant-Man has had a long complicated history. Originally set to be directed by the brilliant man behind Shawn of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Edgar Wright, Ant-Man was to be the weirdos’ super hero movie. But Edgar left the movie after finding his vision conflicted with Marvel’s and the movie was passed on to Peyton Reed. That doesn’t mean we aren’t still excited. Heck, it made our list! The story of a man who can shrink to the size of an ant while growing in strength is unconventional and with Paul Rudd leading the movie, that sounds perfect to us.

The latest movie from District 9 and Elysium visionary Neill Blomkamp, CHAPPiE has all the signs of a great Blomkamp-ian sc-fi. The movie stars Hugh Jackman, Blomkamp Muse Sharlto Copley (as CHAPPiE) and Yolandi and Ninja from Die Antwoord. Yes, Yolandi and Ninja from Die Antwoord. And they fit in perfectly. The movie tells the story of a robot who can learn and is kidnapped by a South African gang for their evil means. We just hope that the merchandising for this movie includes full sized CHAPPiEs for everyone!

We promised you many sentient robots and we are giving you many sentient robots. Where CHAPPiE seems friendly, well this robot seems eerie, but not as eerie has her inventor. Let us refer to the official synopsis: “Ex Machina is an intense psychological thriller, played out in a love triangle between two men and a beautiful robot girl. It explores big ideas about the nature of consciousness, emotion, sexuality, truth and lies.” Woah. What also makes this movie special is that this is a little peak in to what Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be like because the leads are Star Wars cast members Domhnall Gleeson and Oscar Isaac.

Our excitement for this film is based solely on nostalgia. We all read the Goosebumps books religiously as kids and loved the show. So when we heard there was a new movie coming out, and that Jack Black would be playing R.L. Stine himself, we got very very excited. The movie is about a teenager who moves in to the same neighbourhood as the author who keeps all the monsters locked up in his books. But the story takes off when the neighbour kid releases all of them into the world. We like to imagine this movie as Jumanji with monsters. Are we the only people who can’t get the ventriloquist doll out of our nightmares?

Most of what we know has come from the latest trailer. It is a nice change from the way trailers normally are put together as a montage of key parts of the film. Especially in the age where it seems like so many trailers give away the whole movie. This most recent trailer for the next Pixar film Inside Out is a snapshot of what a regular family dinner table encounter is like, but with a twist. Riley, the main character in the movie is guided by five emotions Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness. The characters are so adorable.

You may not think you are excited for this movie, but trust us. When you watch the trailer you will surprise yourself. If Jurassic Park was at all involved in your childhood, let along being completely formative like it was for us, you will get chills from the beautiful and eerie take on the classic theme.
Plus, if we are to trust director Colin Trevorrow and a picture of a robotic velociraptor from the set, the film will include a combination of CGI and animatronics. If you are a weirdo nerd like we are, you know that is actually what made the first film so good. It wasn’t completely CGI (mind you it came out in 1993). Plus, Chris Pratt. More Chris Pratt.

Mad Max: Fury Road
The revival of the Mad Max series is the movie we have been talking about the most thanks to it’s incredible trailer. The explosions, the eye candy for both people in to men (Tom Hardy) and people in to women (Charlize Theron) and a manic Nicholas Hoult, this makes our jaws drop. The movie is directed by George Miller, the man who helmed the original three movies and uses a lot of real effects and limited CGI. Jurassic World and Star Wars: The Force Awakens may have the odds to be the biggest blockbusters of 2015, but we like the idea that Mad Max: Fury Road kills them both. Oh what a lovely day indeed.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2
The fourth and last installment of The Hunger Games movie franchise hits theaters just in time for the holiday season next year. Mockingjay Part 1 came out this year and set up Part 2 to be full of action. Some people wondered why such a tight book would need to be divided in to two, but hey we aren’t questioning it. It is great to have another Hunger Games next year. But, if you have read the books you know that the best or at least the most exciting is yet to come. Part 1 was great, sure, but like a Game of Thrones book reader waiting for the Red Wedding on TV, us Hunger Games book readers are waiting for the final act of the Hunger Games series.

Pitch Perfect 2
The Bellas are baaaack! We are so excited for Pitch Perfect 2. The little movie that could because bigger than anyone expected thanks to a hilarious script and the best a capella mash-ups of all time. This time, the Bellas are heading to the world championships of a capella, and the American team is the major underdog thanks to how much the world hates the US. The idea of our gals competing against the best of the best worldwide gives us a musical buzz. Plus, from the trailer it looks like there is some sort of glee club fight club. Sounds jazzy to us.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens
The theories are infinite. Oh what the plot will be. What we do know about the next Star Wars film is limited but we are pretty stoked about it. There is so much to be read into the trailer. From the first listen, we have to imagine that this is the big baddie speaking and that the person walking through the woods is also the villain. Adam Driver was once thought to be playing the leader of the dark side until pictures came out of him wearing Rebel Alliance suit. But, if the voiceover is of the villain, it does kind of sound like Adam Driver. But, if we take Darth Vader as an example, the person playing the role doesn’t necessarily voice the character. Who knows? This is all so mysterious. And why is John Boyega wearing a Storm Trooper suit? And who is that droid? What what kind of lightsaber is that? And who is Daisy Ridley?

Magic Mike XXL
The first Magic Mike was the surprise hit of 2012. It was way better than it had any right to be, even for a Soderbergh film. Magic Mike XXL will be directed by Gregory Jacobs with Soderbergh producing and Matthew McConaughey will not be involved. Butwe still hope it will be as good. The movie follows the stripper dudes as they road trip from Tampa to Myrtle Beach for a convention. Oh the possibilities this opens up for our rag tag team. We just hope that Magic Mike is still following his furniture designing dreams.

Our dreams have come true. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are starring in a movie together. As sisters. Whaaaat? Sure, Baby Mama came out a few years ago with the two on the bill but does anyone really remember that movie let alone love it. Real talk, no. Sisters will feature Fey and Poehler as siblings conspiring to throw one last raging party in their childhood home before their parents sell it out from under them. Lucky for use, Maya Rudolph is on the guest list. Our fingers are crossed that the duo will reveal that they are actually real life sisters while on the press tour.
