The xx Go Home In New Video For ‘Saying Something Loving’

In January, British trio The xx released their third studio album I See You, the follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2013 record Coexist.

After years out of the spotlight as a band, The xx dropped their lead single from I See You with “On Hold,” as well as a brand new music video. Shot in the small art community of Marfa, Texas, “On Hold” centred around the teenage experience in small town America. Now with their second single and video for “Say Something Loving,” The xx are returning to their hometown of London to shine a light on what it’s like being a young person across the pond.

The three members of the band, including Romy Croft, Oliver Sim and Jamie Smith (also known as solo producer/DJ Jamie xx), play their instruments in front of a blue backdrop as shots of London are inter-spliced between their performance. English teens hang out in an arcade, a tunnel and show off their moves in a skate park as The xx’s wistful ballad plays over top.

Directed by Alasdair McLellan, who was also behind the camera for “On Hold,” the band recently tweeted about inspiration for the “Say Something Loving” visuals. Forming in high school at age 15, the three members said, “We wanted to celebrate our home town and revisit some of the places that reminds us of our friendship when we were growing up.”

Currently making their way through Europe and South America, The xx will take their tour the US and Canada this spring, hitting Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal in April and May.
