Tina Fey Announces Musical Production Of Mean Girls

If Legally Blonde, Rocky Horror and Lion King could do, why can’t Mean Girls?

Mean Girls
might never have a reunion or sequel, but the 2004 classic is returning in the form of a musical! Writer, actress and comedienne Tina Fey confirmed the news last night on Watch What Happens Live.

Fey spilled very few deets about the project but did reveal that she and her composer hubby Jeff Richmond were tag-teaming the project. The songs featured in the musical will sound more like classic Broadway songs and less like pop music.

It doesn’t sound like she’s looking to reprise her role of Ms. Norbury, nor will she be reaching out to any of the original cast members to participate in the production.

In terms of a release date though, she was coy in giving any time frame for completion, “2027. Whenever Hamilton closes,” she joked.

In the meantime, we’ll start imagining the lyrics for numbers like “Fetch Isn’t Going To Happen” and “I’m Not Like A Regular Mom, I’m A Cool Mom”
