The Toronto Maple Leafs turn 100 years old this season and a centennial has never looked so good. But you can help Leafs Nation look even better by participating in the Toronto Maple Leafs Design Challenge.
Much is teaming up with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Mitchell & Ness and the Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards (CAFA) to select two local designers to create a men’s and women’s capsule collection to launch exclusively at the Toronto Maple Leafs Store powered by Real Sports Apparel in September 2017. The designers will use the new Leafs primary sweater as inspiration and work with sports apparel experts Mitchell & Ness to bring the collection to life. Oh, and the two winners will each receive a $25,000 prize. The contest closes on September 26, so be sure to get your designs in before then.
First, we styled Leafs outfits with Letitia Chan of LookUnderHere. Then we had an NHL shootout with Deejdesign and Wendel Clark. Now, Liz Trinnear is taking us into the Mitchell & Ness headquarters to get the inside scoop on how to rock the the TML Design Challenge.
Liz picked up some pro tips on how to design Leafs apparel by talking to Maurice, a designer at Mitchell & Ness.
“Try to be very creative with using what is available,” Maurice advised contest hopefuls. “Try to keep details that resonate with sports history.”
