This upcoming hockey season, the Toronto Maple Leafs turn 100 years old, and to mark the occasion the team has unveiled a brand-new logo and sweater that celebrates the rich history of the franchise, while looking ahead to a bright future.
Once the pucks drops in October, the city will be flooded with blue and white. If you don’t know the difference between offside and icing, but do know the difference between culottes and the more traditional trouser, then we’ve got the perfect contest for you to show off your style while flashing some civic pride.
Much is teaming up with the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards (CAFA) to select two local designers to create a men’s and women’s capsule collection to launch exclusively at the Toronto Maple Leafs Store powered by Real Sports Apparel in September 2017. The designers will use the new Leafs primary sweater as inspiration and work with sports apparel experts Mitchell & Ness to bring the collection to life. Oh, and the two winners will each receive a $25,000 prize, which could buy a tonne of pucks.
The contest opens July 25 and runs until September 26, when finalists will be selected to move on, playoff style. We would prefer the finalists drop the gloves and settle it the old fashioned way, but it’s probably safer if we put it to a vote. Once finalists are decided on, you will have the opportunity to check out the best looks and vote for your favourite. The designers with the most votes will take home the big prize and help Leafs fans become the best dressed fans in the league.
Much Creator, fashionista and sports newbie Letitia Chan of LookUnderHere had the chance to hang out with Jillian Vieira, Fashion Editor of The Kit, to check out the new sweater and put together some fresh outfits of her own. Check out her experience below and get inspired to submit your looks and become a part of Leafs history! For more information on the contest head to mapleleafs.com/fashionchallenge.
