Most people know—whether they’re fans or not—that Demi Lovato hasn’t always had an easy past, and the new trailer for her upcoming documentary offers viewers an intimate look at challenges she’s faced in her career and life.
Following the announcement of the doc, titled Simply Complicated, the “Sorry Not Sorry” singer has released the trailer for the YouTube-exclusive film.
In the trailer, the 25-year-old singer opens up to fans about her mental and physical health. Several interviewees were featured in the trailer as well, including her manager Phil McIntyre and long-time friend and singer Nick Jonas.
Chronicling her entire career starting from when she was a child, the documentary doesn’t seem like it’ll be shying away from the darker parts of Lovato’s life, including her battle with substance abuse and an incident in 2010 where she punched her back-up dancer in the face.
“I went on like a bender for like two months where I was using daily,” she says in a the trailer.
The documentary will explore Lovato’s journey to sobriety, as well as her personal relationships. The singer has also previously hinted that her sexual orientation would also be discussed, but claiming she doesn’t “owe anybody anything.” Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated is set for release on October 17.
