Vanessa Hudgens Talks ‘Grease: Live’ With Jimmy Kimmel

With the premiere of Grease: LIVE right around the corner, Vanessa Hudgens sat down with Jimmy Kimmel to talk High School Musical, live theatre and dancing adjacent to John Travolta.

Hudgens plays Rizzo in the upcoming live performance of the 1978 film. She’ll star alongside Julianne Hough, Aaron Tveit, Keke Palmer and Carly Rae Jepsen.

Though is the first live performance of Grease, this won’t be Hudgens’ first try at live theatre. She just completed a Broadway run of the musical Gigi, where she starred as the young free spirited Parisian girl the show is named for.

“I know what it’s like to do live theatre now,” she said. She recounted a night she was on with an understudy. The understudy dropped a champagne glass that broke, throwing the entire cast off, “For those few seconds, I felt like I was literally going to die.”

She also talked about her encounters with the original Grease cast. Didi Conn, who played Frenchy, returns in the 2016 performance. John Travolta isn’t involved, but Hudgens does talk about a time where she disco danced behind him at an Oscars party!
