10 Things You Didn’t Know About Tom Mulcair, Stephen Harper and Justin Trudeau

Maybe you’ve gotten a handle on their political platforms but we’ve rounded up some personal deets on three party leaders that just might surprise you.  It’s nice to remember that politicians are people, too (no matter how robotic they may appear…)

1. Tom Mulcair has a number of nicknames

They include “Mr. Angry,” courtesy of Maclean’s, as well as “Tom the Bomb” and “The Grizzly.”

For Halloween last year, he dressed up as an Angry Bird (maybe because of his nickname).

2. Stephen Harper is a big fan of AC/DC.

He is a musician who isn’t afraid to burst into song when there’s a Roland keyboard around. His repertoire includes the Rolling Stones’ “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline.”

3. Justin Trudeau is an amateur boxer.

4. Trudeau did the hip flip with Nardwuar.

5. So did Mulcair.

6. Stephen Harper did not.

7.  Contrary to Harper’s reputation, he’s actually sometimes quite funny.

8. And as Yoda or maybe Mulcair the jedi says: “Truly wonderful, the mind of a child is.”

9. Speaking of children…Justin is the child of another famous politician: Pierre Elliott Trudeau.

Family business.

10. And finally some food for thought…Trudeau and Mulcair are apparently ninth cousins.
