Ariana Grande’s decision to ride a stationary bicycle during her recent MTV VMA performance seemed like a confusing one at the time, with the cardio element leaving the singer out of breath for her live performance.
Grande has now appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres show and explained the inspiration behind her performance—ahem—a d*ck bicycle.
According to Grande, Nicki Minaj, who appears on the song “Side To Side” with the singer, uses the term ‘d*ck bicycle,’ which made Grande want to start her performance with an ode to the Tour De France.
So, what exactly is a dick bicycle? Good question. Here’s Ariana Grande attempting to explain it.
Ellen isn’t the only celeb receiving a lyric lesson on “Side To Side.” Writer and actor Lena Dunham tweeted that her musician boyfriend Jack Antonoff had to explain the song’s content to her, which brought up many emotions. Sorry, emotionz.
Jack just explained that the song Side to Side is about getting railed so hard you can’t walk. SO MANY EMOTIONZ.

Just as a refresher, in “Side To Side,” Minaj raps, “This the new style with the fresh type of flow/ Wrist icicle, ride d— bicycle/ Come true yo, get you this type of blow. If you wanna Minaj I got a tricycle.” We’re still not totally clear on the definition of d*ck bicycle, but damn, that’s a catchy song.
