The comedy world was rocked yesterday by news that groundbreaking comedian Garry Shandling had passed away. The stand up comic and TV actor suffered a fatal heart attack at the age of 66, leaving many of his famous friends and fans around the world to mourn his sudden passing.
One fan and famous friend is Conan O’Brien. During last night’s episode of Conan, the late night host paid tribute to Shandling, sharing a number of stories, including how Shandling helped Conan out of his depression after he was fired from The Tonight Show.
Conan and Andy Richter also reminisced about some of Shandling’s best moments while appearing on their show, as well as how the writing staff reacted to news of the comedian’s passing.
Shandling starred on the groundbreaking comedy The Larry Sanders show on HBO as well as his own series, It’s Garry Shandling’s Show on Showtime. Famous for his stand up, Shandling was a guest host on The Tonight Show for Johnny Carson and often wrote with other comedians, including Conan, Judd Apatow and Sacha Baron Cohen.
An outpouring of support and condolences for Shandling began appearing on social media immediately following news of the comedian’s death yesterday.
