To promote his third solo album Last Year Was Complicated, Nick Jonas documented the making of and release of the disc in a documentary series. Starting with the album release in June, the former Jonas Brothers member has been slowly releasing episodes of the doc on Tidal and YouTube. Today’s brand new episode features a city and a stage we know quite well.
In episode five, Jonas kicks things off by driving around New York City and selling his album on the streets to eager fans hoping to meet the pop star. He then hops on a plane and lands in Toronto, where he not only receives a congratulations email from Jay Z, who named Jonas’ new album, but also gets a call informing him that Last Year Was Complicated has reached number one.
Of course, Jonas was in Toronto this past June to make his third appearance at the iHeartRadio MMVAs, when he made history as the first act to ever perform in the crowd on Queen Street.
Not only did Jonas perform at the iHeartRadio MMVAs, he also took home the award for International Artist of the Year.
In the documentary clip below, we see Jonas being told by his managers that he should be near the stage in case he wins. Skeptical that his name would be called, Jonas does win, receiving an early congratulations from presenter Shay Mitchell, who also starred with Jonas in his video for “Under You.” It’s a really, really sweet moment.
