The Weeknd was in full rock star mode for his performance this past Saturday on SNL. The Toronto native marked his fourth appearance on the famous sketch show, this time performing his two latest singles, “Starboy” and “False Alarm.”
Both performances matched the new aesthetic The Weeknd has been employing for the Starboy cover art and his latest Grant Singer-directed music video for the album’s titled track. Performing in front of a black background with a neon red cross hanging above the stage, The Weeknd gave a simple yet captivating performance, sounding pitch perfect and delivering his trademark dance moves.
The Weeknd debuted “False Alarm” last Thursday, one day before its release on iTunes, and surprised fans with the high-energy, EDM-inspired track.
In addition to two solo appearances, The Weeknd also joined Ariana Grande back in 2014 for their duet “Love Me Harder” and surprised fans during Future’s performance last season.
The R&B singer opened the 42nd season of SNL along with host Margo Robbie and even briefly appeared during Weekend Update, giving his version of Weeknd Update. The update? He cut his hair. We noticed.
