Wed, October, 9 by Giulia Gucciardi

The BET Hip Hop Awards set the stage for some of the biggest names in the hip hop world and this year they did not disappoint. The award show was held at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Georgia, and included performances by Megan Thee Stallion, Chance The Rapper, and Rick Ross, just to name a few. Missed the show? Don’t worry, we got you covered. Check out everything you missed at the 2019 BET Awards below.

Lil’ Kim’s Performance

Right after receiving the I Am Hip Hop award presented by Rick Ross, Lil Kim took the stage for an iconic performance. Queen Bee brought Junior M.A.F.I.A. on the stage, to honour Biggie with “Player’s Anthem,” and performed her verse from “All About Benjamins.” In her acceptance speech she paid tribute to the Brooklyn-based rapper, and mentioned how she’s “gonna always love him” and “gonna always ride for him.”

J.Cole Cleaned Up

J.Cole did not come to play. Walking away with three trophies, he won Lyricist Of The Year, Sweet 16: Best Featured Verse for his verse on 21 Savage’s “A Lot,” and Impact Track for his single “Middle Child.”

A Few Close Seconds

Some other big winners from the night included Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, and Travis Scott, who all took home two awards each.

Travis Scott’s Album of the Year Win

Of the two awards Scott took home, the notable one was Album of the Year for Astroworld, beating out heavy competition including Lizzo, Meek Mill, and Tyler the Creator.

Red Carpet Fashion

This year’s attendees pulled out all the stops in their fashion choices. We are living for bold colours with Kash Doll’s pink feathered one-piece and Ariana Soleil’s all-red number, while Juicy J’s patterned robe is a statement piece we cannot stop staring at.
