Your Guide To The Return Of Regina Spektor

Regina Spektor

Singer-songwriter Regina Spektor has been releasing inventive and beautiful records for years, though she’s flown somewhat under the radar of mainstream music fans. Starting in 2003, Spektor began gaining traction while opening for bands like The Strokes, Kings of Leon and Keane, but it was her 2006 record Begin to Hope that really kicked Spektor’s career into high gear. Her single, “Fidelity,” went viral on YouTube, a feat that was still relatively new in 2006.

It’s been four years since Spektor released her sixth album, What We Saw From the Cheap Seats, and now she’s readying to release new material. We. Are. Excited.

Whether you’re a long-time listener or a first-time caller, here’s what you need to know about Regina Spektor.

She’s Multi-Talented

Singer-songwriter Regina Spektor is also an accomplished guitar player and pianist, graduating from the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College in New York. She’s been deemed an official ‘Steinway Artist’, playing exclusively Steinway pianos.

There’s Lots To Love

Spektor has an incredible back catalogue of music that’s worth checking out (six albums, to be exact).

Attention: Orange Is The New Black Fans

If you’ve watched any seasons of OITNB, then you’ve already heard a bit of what Spektor can do. Spektor’s original theme song, titled “You’ve Got Time,” earned a Grammy nomination in 2014.

Actually, You’ve Probably Heard Her Music Everywhere

Spektor not only sings the theme song for OINTB, but has also had her music featured in a number of TV series and movies, including Grey’s Anatomy, Weeds, How I Met Your Mother, Veronica Mars, Girls, 500 Days of Summer and the series finale of The Good Wife.

Her New Single Is Called “Bleeding Heart”

Spektor has dropped the first single from her upcoming album with the dramatically dark pop track, “Bleeding Heart,” that’s giving us Imogen Heap-vibes. The beautiful and deceptively sweet tune takes a surprising turn during a rock interlude before returning back to its original sound, giving way for an a capella ending that has us salivating for more.

Expect 11 New Tracks

In addition to “Bleeding Heart,” Remember Us to Life will include 10 more new tracks, including “Older and Taller,” “Grand Hotel,” “Small Bill$,” “Black and White,” “The Light,” “The Trapper and the Furrier,” “Tornadoland,” “Obsolete,” “Sellers of Flowers” and “The Visit.”

Her New Album Is Out September 30

It’s called Remember Us to Life (you really should know this by now) and has a stunning cover.

Great Taste

Not only does Spektor have great taste in music and philanthropic causes (she’s helped raised money for a number of human rights campaigns), she’s also got great taste in countries.

Oh Canada🍁💕!
