Zac Efron Takes Us Behind The Scenes Of ‘Extremely Wicked’ With New On-Set Pics

Ross Lynch played Jeffrey Dahmer. Darren Criss played Andrew Cunanan. And now Zac Efron is keeping the heartthrobs-playing-notorious-serial-killers trend alive by starring as Ted Bundy in the upcoming film Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile.

Extremely Wicked, which wraps production this week, follows Bundy as he attempts to conceal his terrible crimes and true, monstrous nature from the people around him. And while Efron as Bundy, as expected, will play a large role, the film will actually be told from the perspective of Bundy’s girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer (Mirror Mirror’s Lily Collins). While Kloepfer denied Bundy’s crimes for years, she ultimately helped facilitate her boyfriend’s eventual arrest and will likely make for a more convincing protagonist than Bundy ever could (sorry, Zac).

Since production on Extremely Wicked kicked off in mid-January, Efron has continued to share photos of himself, Collins, and The Maze Runner’s Kaya Scodelario (who plays Bundy’s ex-wife, Carole Ann Boone) on social media, starting with a haunting black and white photo of himself as Bundy. His latest photo features both Efron and Scodelario in character, talking to one another in what looks to be a prison visitation room.

Collins has also been actively promoting the film on social media, sharing multiple photos of herself as Elizabeth (or “Liz”) on Instagram over the past week. Apart from the fact that Collins has an uncanny ability to pull off flared jeans and button-up-shirts, our biggest take away from the photos is that she had an absolute blast on the Extremely Wicked set. In her most recent Extremely Wicked-centric post, Collins stands proudly next to director Joe Berlinger and gushes that working on the movie “has been utterly life changing” and “truly indescribable.”

Berlinger is widely known for directing documentaries, making him an interesting choice to helm the star-studded Extremely Wicked. But the film is based on a true story, and hopefully Berlinger’s expertise will allow him to provide us with more information about the famously charismatic and good-looking Bundy without humanizing him too much.

Extremely Wicked doesn’t have an official release date yet, but seeing as the movie also stars The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons, The Sixth Sense’s Haley Joel Osment and Westworld’s Angela Sarafyan, we’ll be sure to mark our calendars once it does.
