When Zayn Malik announced his departure from One Direction in 2015, he thankfully wasn’t putting an end to all musical collaborations. The now solo artist has found his own sound and showed his versatility both with his own tracks and when in the studio with others, including last year’s massive hit “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” with Taylor Swift as well as “Freedun” off M.I.A.’s 2016 album AIM.
Now Zayn has teamed up with Brampton’s very own PartyNextDoor, combining elements of pop, R&B and dancehall for a more lighthearted track than we’re used to hearing from the often somber and emotional Malik.
Frank Dukes and Murda Beatz handled production on the new duet, with both Canadian producers having previously worked with Drake and most of rap’s biggest names, while Murda Beatz also teamed up with PND and Drake on “With You.”
“Still Got Time,” which marks the first collaboration between Malik and PartyNextDoor, is the lead single from Malik’s upcoming sophomore solo album. A title and release date have yet to be announced, but considering the success of Malik’s 2016 debt Mind Of Mine, we’re expecting big things.
Today’s offering from Zayn and PND is the second new piece of music released by PartyNextDoor this week. The Toronto artist also took on Bruno Mars’ current chart-topping single “That’s What I Like,” adding his own lines to the catchy feel-good track. Singing “Let’s hit Miami, Biscayne / Might let you change your name for the night,” PND turns’ Mars’ 24K Gold single into a duet, breathing new life into the already catchy tune.
