Zayn Malik Teases New Album, Shares Beyoncé Cover

Two years after dropping his debut album Mind of Mine, pop-R&B singer Zayn Malik is gearing up for his second LP.

The former One Direction member has been teasing his much-anticipated sophomore album for a while now, but now the 25-year-old has given fans a taste of what’s to come.

Malik tweeted that his new “album is on the way,” along with a video of the singer covering Beyoncé’s massive-hit track “Me, Myself and I,” the third single from her 2003 debut solo album Dangerously In Love. Check it out below.

While the cover remains fairly faithful to the original, Malik turns the track into a smooth slow jam and changes a few of Bey’s lyrics to reflect his own relationship flaws: “So dumb and naive / To believe that with you I’m a changed man / Foolish of you / To compete when I cheat with loose women”—arguably dishing on his relationship with supermodel Gigi Hadid.

This cover marks the fourth track the British pop star has released in anticipation of his new record. His yet-to-be titled sophomore album will be a follow up to 2016’s deeply moody and emotional Mind of Mine, which was released shortly after Malik announced his departure from One Direction. The album debuted at the top spot of the Billboard 200, making Malik the first U.K. artist to top the chart with his debut.

While details about the pop singer’s second record have been scarce, he pulled a Taylor Swift earlier this year and wiped out the contents of his Instagram in preparation for the new album. Zayn confirmed in an interview with Beats 1 that everything would make sense once the new album drops later this year.

“It’s all very like, under wraps at the minute. I’m trying to keep it as mysterious as possible but there’s a plan with the rollout,” said Malik. “It’s going to be different to anything anyone has done before, I don’t think anyone has done it this way. So it’s going to be interesting to see how the audience react to this kind of release, but I wanted to try something different.”

Most recently, Malik released a third entry in his dramatic music video saga with “Entertainer” which is set to appear on his forthcoming album. The video continues the sexy, action-packed storyline from both of the singer-songwriter’s “Dusk Till Dawn” and “Let Me” music videos that co-star Breaking Bad’s Steven Bauer.
